Since 1986 we've lived here in Amberg, a town of 43.000 in the Upper Palatinate (Northern Bavaria). On old postcards it is sometimes affectionately referred to as “Perle der Oberpfalz” (Pearl of the Upper Palatinate) - and we subscribe to this view, since we both feel very much at home here. The picture shows the old town wall near the “Vilstor” (Gate near the River Vils); this is where we pass by on our way to school every day - mostly on our bikes.
